Does Your Website Define Your Local Target Market?

May 26th, 2010

Several months ago I wrote an article discussing the benefits of using Internet Yellow Pages to improve your local presence.

I’ve been thinking about local SEO a little more lately and have noticed time and time again that a lot of my clients are targeting a specific geographic location but their website is designed to appeal to a national audience. When I ask them if they serve a national audience they usually say that they only focus locally.

Which brings me to an important thing to keep in mind if you are a small business in the same situation- make sure your site clearly defines your market!

Ten Tips to Improve Your Business’s Online Visibility

May 9th, 2010

I was catching up on some reading at SearchEngineLand.com and I came across a great article about how small businesses can improve their online visibility.  As I read through the article I noticed a link to AmIVisible.org and clicked on it to see what it was all about.  What I stumbled upon was a great tool for checking your company’s visibility but, what was even better than that, was the list of 10 tips for improving a small business’s online visibility.

Here is a rundown of what they are and I would recommend checking out the link above for the complete article.  It is well worth taking a few minutes to go over.

Tip 1: Claim your local business

Tip 2: Update your full and accurate address on all local business directories, search engines and your website in the right categories

Tip 3: Put your business in the right categories

Tip 4: Include product/service keywords in your local business listing title

Tip 5: Add or verify your business listing with data providers for search engines

Tip 6: Get your customers to write online reviews about your business

Tip 7: Engage your customers online on user review sites such as Yelp

Tip 8: Use social networks such as MySpace, Facebook and Twitter to stay  in touch with current customers and attract new customers

Tip 9: Advertise online

Tip 10: Create a clean, coherent website with content that targets your keywords.

It’s Been Awhile…But I’m Back!

May 8th, 2010

I haven’t added any new content to my blog in awhile but things have been extremely busy and, I know, I shouldn’t make any excuses.  But, the past is the past, and what matters is that I’m back!

A lot has happened since I last posted something.  I have been working on a recruiting project for Comcast which has involved building a team from the ground up in their newly formed Converged Products group.  I have had a blast doing it but it appears that the team is almost fully staffed, so its time to begin building business again.

One of the Easiest Ways to Achieve Local SEO

I’m always amazed at how many companies I come across that do not take advantage of internet yellow pages (IYPs).  IYPs have to be one of the easiest, most effective and (most important) free ways to achieve local SEO.

Kanye Outburst Staged or is He Just a “Jackass”?

September 15th, 2009

The more I see the outburst on TV or YouTube the more I think it was a marketing ploy set in motion by a few major media players.  First of all, the VMAs have been worthless for the past 10 years.  Hell, I didn’t even think they were still on or maybe I have been confusing them with the Disney Channel’s music awards.  Anyway, I haven’t been the target demographic for quite some time.

Social Media for Small Business Webinar Follow Up

July 10th, 2009

Wednesday’s webinar went off without a hitch – well I guess the only hitch I can think of was that I waited too long to push the record button  But other than that, I felt that it went great.

I want to thank everyone that participated and I hope I provided you with some great information.  My goal was to send you away with at least one bit of knowledge that you didn’t have prior to the webinar.

I was finally able to get a link up to the recorded webinar late yesterday afternoon and it is now available, along with a PDF of the slides on my Recorded Webinar page.

Thanks again to everyone that joined me!  Stay tuned for upcoming webinars.
